          Born on April 26, 1970, in Des Moines, Iowa, to parents with Native American and African-American ancestry, Tyonne's life was marked by a serious health challenge.

          At the age of seven, she was diagnosed with sickle cell anemia, a genetic blood disorder affecting red blood cells. Her parents were devastated, as their daughter was expected to live only until her 20s.

          Undeterred, Tyonne moved to Atlanta, Georgia, with her family at age nine.
